Consumer VOICE Issue: NOVEMBER-DECEMBER 2002

Voluntary Organization in Interest of Consumer Education (VOICE) conducted a comparative testing of water heaters or geyser covering in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kollkata. VOICE tested ten (10) leading brands of the 25 litre capacity water heaters in accordance with the specifications laid down by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

The brand tested were Bajaj-Energy Smart, Venus-B/25/V, Usha-WH 1125 D Lexus, Hotflo, Remson-Goldline, Thermoking, Johnson-Max Heat, Racold-AL-25B, Spherhot-25 VPT(R) Ver Class II and Crompton Greaves-SWH 325

Result

Bajaj stays ahead of all other brands. Usha and Venus take the second and third positions respectively. No brand except for Remson does well in the energy performance test. According to draft BIS Energy Standard Rating, only Remson would get a 5-Star rating. Bajaj would get a 3 star, Usha-2 Star, Venus, Racold and Spherehot would get just a 1 Star rating. Crompton and Hotflo performed poorly in energy performance.
